CHARACTER INFO

NAME: Diluc Ragnvindr
SERIES: Genshin Impact
CANON POINT: Patch 3.5, during the Windblume Festival
AGE: Around 22~24.

CHARACTER SUMMARY:
The Diluc we know now is one born from grief, trauma, perceived betrayal, and a four year sojourn around the world. What was once a happy and carefree young man who saw the world with rose-colored glasses became a brooding, grumpy, deadpan man who understands the evils and corruption of society. But luckily, rather than let it drag him to darker paths, he continues on his path of righteousness and maintains his previous sense of justice. Only this time, rather than thinking the world is inherently kind, he will instead protect what kindness manages to exist and drive away the darkness himself. He is not a passive person in any sense of the word, and he will not wait to act only when there is something to act upon. Instead, he'll seek it out himself, burning away the rot before it can even become an issue. Basically, he becomes Batman.

However, despite his sour demeanor, once he gets to know someone, he is quite kind and caring. He asks the Traveler several times if they're okay or if they need anything, and his voice lines express relief that the Traveler is safe. He insists the Traveler use his umbrella, gives the Traveler a bottle of his prized juice for free, allows Venti to continue leaching off of him despite acting annoyed about it. He is not one to waste time with words or other niceties, but he is quite soft on the inside if he deems you worthy of it. He just expresses his softness in less words than other people.

He's perfectly capable of masking his brooding, though. In the webtoon, he's shown being cordial, polite, and even emotive. He is noted to smile politely at strangers asking him why he doesn't drink wine. He knows how to maintain connections and relationships and not look like a total brooding, edgelord asshole.

POWERS:
general proficiency with greatsword/claymore
Diluc has wielded weapons for who knows how long - he likely trained hard prior to joining the knights, and he became Captain at age 14. So yes, he is quite skilled at his main weapon of choice, a claymore. He can even wield it one-handed, which in Genshin is quite rare and can only be done by one other wielder. He is strong enough to even toss it and have it land precisely where he wants. Notably, when he takes damage, his attack and attack speed increase.

pyro vision
Diluc has two main canonical abilities that his Pyro vision grants him.
He can infuse his weapon with fire for a limited time. He also has a specific set of strikes that when hit in succession, can increase his attack with each blow, likely through his many years of practice.

He also has the ability to summon a large wave of fire with his blade, stylized as a phoenix, and send it toward enemies and knocking them backward. This ability is not strong enough to topple buildings but will scorch it.

delusion
The use of a delusion (sort of fake visions) is what killed his father. While he doesn't have one with him, Diluc was able to take up the delusion easily and avoid the stress of the delusion on his body, indicating that he is much sturdier than his father at even 18 years old. I think this in particular shows his prowess in combat and hardiness in body and mind.

GAME INFO

ASPECTS:
1. Harbinger. Diluc has a strong sense of duty since the day he was born - it colors everything he does. As a child, he did everything in his power to achieve what his father was unable to. As an adult, he does everything in his power to protect the city he loves, even if it's against the laws set by the Knights of Favonius (which he famously regards as incompetent and inefficient).

2. Stargazer. This is more descriptive of Diluc before his father's death. He was a brighter, happier man back then. We don't know too much about what he was like back then, but we know that he was constantly improving himself. Having a vision wasn't good enough, so he became a knight. Being a knight wasn't good enough, so he became Captain. But the Diluc back then is still part of the Diluc now, even if his father's death has deeply changed him.

ANTICIPATED FACTION:
Meridian. Diluc is very dedicated to Mondstadt, the country he grew up in. It is his self-imposed main purpose in life to protect it at all costs. Meridian offers a way to revive the country which he adores and protects with his life. He would also be very fond of celebrating Mondstadt's rich culture and would likely do anything to resurrect his world. And despite his dour demeanor, Diluc is a man full of hope. He doesn't understand the concept of giving up. He is bound and determined to achieve anything he sets his mind to. He is not one to accept his fate.

SUITABILITY:
Because of Diluc's intense dedication to his country, he will absolutely find any way to return to it. Due to his vigilante activities, he can also serve as a spy to gather information if needed - or just flat out fight his way to that information, depending on the situation. He's very versatile "soldier" in that sense and can be utilized in a multitude of ways.

But also, he has a loved one in the other faction. So he'll be bouncing between trying to convince him to defect while also aiding Kaeya in whatever way he needs. While Diluc is dedicated to Meridian's cause, at the beginning, he will only see Meridian as a means to an end. That should create interesting harmonization/discord situations that may in turn affect his feelings about Meridian.
